Working With Crystals: Rose Quartz

Rose Quartz is quite possibly the most well-known crystal there is out there. You may know it as the Heart Stone or the Love Stone, and for good reason.

This crystal is most commonly used as a tool for lovers to deepen their connections, and even is commonly used as a fertility charm. But, through personal use and research, I have found that there is much more to Rose Quartz.

It has an extensive history, dating as far back as 800 BC. At this time the Assyrians would craft this crystal into some of the most beautiful jewelry. Then, through time, it gained other uses as well. The Egyptian pharaohs and their queens believed it to prevent aging, and developed their own beauty routine using Rose Quartz. Grecians used it as a signifier for making peace, much like their olive branches. Romans used this crystal to signify ownership. Then, in the Middle Ages, Alchemists used it in many of their potions and elixirs.

The reason Rose Quartz became so popular and used in many different ways is because, of all crystals, this one is the gentlest and most romantic. It invites all forms of love, including self-love. This also encourages moving past your anger and disappointment (most likely to help you love your life more).

In my experience, this beautiful pink crystal is a great representation of both quartz crystals- which are all variations of booster crystals- and the color pink- which anyone will tell you is associated with love.

I believe that, at its core, Rose Quartz was intended by Aya to purify the love held within our hearts. This is such a sweet and gentle wish for us, and that energy is imbued in these crystals. And as something any mother would wish for their children; it makes this crystal ideal for children and for those just starting their healing journey.

Everyone benefits from the effects of Rose Quartz, and not just emotionally.

Energetically, Rose Quartz is known for its effects on the heart chakra (naturally). I have also found, though, that it can have a positive effect on your throat chakra as well. For me, it helps me to express my love for others in their own love languages, as many people I know do not understand the same love language as me.

Some of you will be surprised to know that there are also physical benefits from this crystal’s energy.

Because of its association with the heart chakra, Rose Quartz is also known to boost your heart’s health. This leads to better circulation of the blood.

For this reason, it is highly recommended for those bearing a child.

To use Rose Quartz, you can wear it as jewelry, as most people do. Usually direct contact with your skin yields the best results for personal use.

If jewelry’s not your thing, though, or you want to include others in its loving energy, there’s other ways to use it as well.

You can place it somewhere special in your household, such as a stand next to your bed (if you wish to use it for passion between you and your lover) or anywhere in your house to promote love between family members. If this is your goal, the best place for this crystal is the center of your home. The most commonly used room is a good place for it as well, as I have found in my household.

I have not tried this yet, but I was able to find how the Egyptian pharaohs and queens used Rose Quartz in their beauty routine.

They would take polished stones and soak them in a bowl or jar of fresh spring water with a handful of rose petals. Usually this was done in the sun. After several hours, the water would be strained into a spritz bottle, which would then be used to mist their face first thing in the morning and in the evening before retiring to bed.

If any of you decide to do this, please don’t be afraid to share your results with us on our Facebook page (@mystoryrewritten).

While doing this, keep in mind that non-polished Rose Quartz do not do too well when under the sun or in water for too long. You can, however, use running water to replenish and cleanse any Rose Quartz you have. And moonlight is great for recharging these crystals. I recommend doing this on the night of a full moon.

Crystals can also be combined with other crystals for interesting effects. While you are free to pick your combinations, I have found that Rose Quartz works best with either Clear Quartz or Amethyst.

Clear Quartz is known as an amplifier, so putting these two together will naturally increase the effects of unconditional love. Personally I use this combination for the center of my household, but you can use this for the bedroom as well.

While Clear Quartz amplifies Rose Quartz, Amethyst compliments it. It matches gentility with serenity, and love with clarity. For this reason, these two are my favorite together and the combination I use most for healing meditations.

All in all, Rose Quartz’s gentle and loving nature makes it the best to start healing- and loving- yourself.
