Munay Ki Archetypes: Lower Earth Keeper

If you recall in a previous post, I had an experience with the ancestors shortly after receiving the rites. They asked me to choose the forms for which my Lower, Middle, and Upper Earth Keepers took. It was completely unexpected and I felt unprepared.

But there was something within me that already knew what animals to choose. And so I presented the images of the Horse, Cheetah, and Red-Tailed Hawk.

Afterward, I didn't think too much about it. But then, a couple of days later, Trevor Hall's Obsidian started playing on my playlist. As the song described a black horse of fire I began imagining it in my head. As the song continued the image turned into a vision of my Lower Earth Keeper, which I am happy to share with you today.

The Lower Earth was a desert of earth and fire, a constant thunderstorm in the sky above. Volcanoes surrounded the landscape like mountain ranges, erupting every so often.

In this land the Horse of Fire galloped, mane and tail flowing behind it. Everywhere its hooves landed, lava flowed out and hardened into permanent imprints of its steps.

As the Horse galloped, I suddenly saw myself riding it. Only I looked completely different. I was more lithe and muscular, wearing tribal clothing that shifted from Native American to Viking and other various ancient cultures. In my hand, I carried a large broadsword made of the brightest silver that constantly reflected the black fire of the Horse's mane.

Then I became this other version of me and learned what it meant to be with my Lower Earth-Keeper.

Upon the Horse, I am a Warrior, ready to defend life including my own. Because we have the will and the strength to keep life going.

As we ride, we not only defend life but create it as well. As the lava erupts below the Horse's steps, the new earth is created with all of the fertility and nutrients necessary to grow the flowers of life.

Having this vision was immensely humbling and awe-inspiring, to say the least. And it taught me a bit more about who I am as a human being.

It is within everyone's instincts to keep ourselves alive. For some, it is simply a matter of working to pay the bills and keep themselves fed. For others, it is a constant search for shelter and food.

But for me, it is finding that which gives me a reason to live. Like many, I struggled in my youth to find my purpose.

Now I know, though, that the purpose of life is simply to live it. It is to honor that spark of life within you. And to honor the collective spark our soul is a piece of by honoring and respecting those around us.

For we are each a flower within the garden, carrying the seeds to expand it.

It also taught me just how much strength I carry with me. And it's not just me that carries this strength.

If you feel you do not carry this strength, you are simply looking for it in the wrong place, as everyone carries it somewhere different within themselves.

I am sure there is much more to learn from the Lower Earth Keeper, but as I continue down this path there is one thing I know for certain.

When the Horse of Fire and I are together, we are a graceful duet of destruction and creation.
